AI Didn’t Break Advertising. Your Thinking Did.
Why AI Isn’t Cutting Your Production Costs

Every few weeks, I hear a version of this from CMOs and founders: AI should make video cheaper, eliminate shoots and give us instant films. These expectations are just incomplete. The problem isn’t AI capability. The problem is how we’re mentally framing AI in Ad film and content production.
Let’s bust a few myths, calmly and honestly.
Myth 1: AI Is the Creative Brain
Reality:
AI by itself can’t create anything meaningful.
AI needs a storyteller, someone who understands human tension, cultural nuance, and emotional payoff. AI generates frames. Humans create connections. Without a thinking editor, a sensitive director, a strong DOP, and narrative clarity, AI produces content, not stories. And content without a story doesn’t move brands.
True AI-film talent combining cinematic craft with AI is rare and expensive, unlike those most loud AI reels, which are clickbait, not real brand storytelling.
AI accelerates production. Humans deliver meaning. And brands grow on meaning, not frames.
Myth 2: AI Will Replace Shoots Completely
Reality:
AI doesn’t replace intent. It replaces inefficiency.
What’s actually happening:
1. Live shoots are getting smaller and sharper
2. CGI is replacing repeatable, risky elements
3. AI is compressing pre-production and post-production
The future isn’t “no shoots”. It’s fewer, smarter shoots with higher control.
Myth 3: AI Means Instant Content
Reality: AI makes bad briefs faster, not better.
Teams that struggle with AI usually discover something uncomfortable: Their problem wasn’t production. It was decision-making. AI doesn't fix copnfusion, it exposes it
Myth 4: AI Automatically Scales Quality
Reality: AI scales structure, not taste.
Without modular planning, content systems, and brand restraint,
Volume actually damages consistency.
The brands winning with AI are designing content architectures, hooks, formats, endings, and variations upfront.
Myth5: AI Will Dramatically Cut Production Costs
Reality: AI doesn’t reduce cost in a straight line. It reduces waste.
The biggest money leaks in video production aren’t cameras or crews, they’re:
1. Endless revisions
2. Late-stage rethinks
3. Approval paralysis
AI’s real value is seeing early, deciding faster, and killing weak ideas before they become expensive mistakes.Cost saving is a byproduct. Decision speed is the real ROI.
The Bigger Truth is AI isn’t a shortcut. It’s a force multiplier. It amplifies:
1. Good thinking
3. Clear strategy
4. Strong storytelling
It also amplifies confusion, noise, and weak intent. AI won’t replace agencies or teams. But it will replace long-overdue, slow, inefficient production thinking.
Marketing is everything, products are
woven around it.
