Do those bizarre Insta-reel tunes play in your head while you are sleeping at night? Are your friends also dancing to the ‘Bachpan Ka Pyaar’ remix by Badshah? Is your influencer family member trying to make a reel go viral? Well, then you most definitely know what it’s like to live in and around a world that makes almost anything blow up over the internet.

Be it the iconic guy nearly having a panic attack while paragliding or ‘Mature Bag’ and related tips for people to have a better personality, the internet, specially short-video platforms like Instagram, MX TakaTak, Josh, Moj are a hub of such bizarre viral trends and people coming in every day. People go viral for all sorts of reasons which cannot really be logically defined. Going viral is more like winning a lottery ticket than a carefully formulated strategy. You wouldn’t even know and something might unexpectedly have over a million views and a new internet sensation would be born overnight.

One thing that is proven for sure is that there is no formula to virality. Anything can work out. No data to backup, no analytics to show that a certain thing will go viral. If it clicks, it clicks.

You would think these content pieces go viral because they add value to the audience’s lives but that’s not the case. These videos are purely for entertainment purposes and act as a good stress-buster after a hectic day. They are mostly humorous and silly or something totally strange and out of the ordinary and that’s why they strike a chord with the audience.

But do you ever wonder where these highly celebrated names come from and vanish away in no time? Well, these internet celebrities have short-lived fame and they disappear into oblivion without leaving an ever-lasting impact on the audience. Most of these trend-makers are from remote areas of the country doing or saying something unusual and causing a stir on the internet. Not just a single person, but multiple parties involved in such scenarios make some quick bucks or use it for further benefit. Usually, the person/subject involved, the person/subject/channel that helps them get fame and other brands/celebrities, all benefit out of such trends, but as mentioned above, it is all short-lived.

For instance, ‘Baba Ka Dhaba’ rose to fame when a Youtuber discovered the aged, poor couple’s food stall and posted a video of them crying due to loss of business during COVID. The clip instantly propelled him to internet fame and turned them and their food stall into a local hit. Sales increased, so much so that the old couple was able to open their own eatery. The Youtuber, as well, gained followers and shares on his video. But it was only for a short while that this fame lasted for both the parties. While this stall got the attention of everyone, right from celebrities to Delhi’s CM, the owners hit a rock bottom in no time when the craze died and they were back to square one.

In another case, ‘Bachpan Ka Pyar’ star, the little boy, who himself had no idea that a random song will make him tomorrow’s superstar, experienced unimaginable fame after his video went viral over the internet. While this kid, completely unaware of the hype, did make a few quick bucks along with becoming a National Fame Face, others took great advantage of this situation and used it to their benefit. Chhattisgarh CM facilitated him and tweeted appreciating his song. Badshah, the pop-rap superstar of India made a remix and garnered over 50 million views on his video.

While these are just some examples of people unexpectedly rising to fame, all of them face the same fate. They disappear into oblivion where nobody remembers or recognizes them after a certain point. More of a fad, these viral internet celebrities are like a shooting star in the sky.
